Who is

Lauren Alexandra?

Bio

Hello! I'm Lauren Alexandra, a theatre and film director based in Atlanta, GA. When I was a little girl, I was always fascinated with film and theatre. Growing up, all I wanted to do was tell stories. So, in May 2023, I received my Bachelor of Arts in Theatre from Columbus State University (Columbus, GA).  While in my undergrad program, I took advantage of every artistic opportunity that was afforded to me. I had the opportunity to be an assistant director on several shows, as well as being able to be the lead director on two shows. I even traveled to Holland, Michigan in the Summer of 2021 to be the assistant director of Hope Repertory's performance of The Color Purple. After graduating, I became a teaching artist at Alliance Theatre, located in Midtown Atlanta. Currently, I am a full-time house manager for the Alliance Theatre.

A quote that keeps me going:

"You can't be hesitant about who you are."

- Viola Davis

Artistic Philosophy

As a director, my main goal is to give power and voice to those who don't feel seen. Growing up, I was the only one in my family interested in theatre and film. The only one who had an emotional connection with both. So, I know first-hand what it feels like to have no one around you understand you. But, I also know what it feels like to be emotionally impacted by theatre and film. To leave a stage performance or film, and feel like you can be or do anything. That feeling is what I've dedicated my life to. I want to connect with others through my directing. I want people to see my work, and feel less alone in the world.

I've always believed that art has the power to change someone's life. That art is a form of healing and a way to connect as human beings. I hope that through my directing style, and commitment to a safe and inclusive working environment, I positively impact both creatives and audiences.
